Hello again everyone. Mr Keeton here. This blog post isn't going to be a cut and paste job or a synopsis of something. This one is coming straight from me. No one else. That being said, I do tend to ramble but I'll try to keep it coherent as ideas flow from my brain onto the keyboard.
For two and a half years now, we have been growing as a school. In the past 30 months, there have only been two months where we have lost more students than we have brought in. This is a good thing of course. But at this point, I am wondering why we have done so. I don't want to be a fluke. If we are to continue to grow, I need to know why so that we do not fall into the trap of getting complacent just because things are good now.
I LOVE what I do! I mean, heck, I'm sitting in the lobby writing this on a Sunday for Pete's sake! But just loving what you do isn't enough. There are other schools in the area that have Instructors that love what they do as well but they haven't grown at anywhere near the rate we have, or in as short of time as we have, if they've grown at all.
We have GREAT parents! There have been times where I have been getting on a student pretty hard and not in a joking manner, in front of the parent. My wife thinks that they will surely leave at that point... but they don't. Our parents seem to know that when I am being hard on their kids, even if it is being REALLY hard on them, that I do so out of love. Love for the kid, love for the art, and love for the fact that parent's have brought their own flesh and blood to me to help them in molding the next generation of citizen. I WANT them to pass and I WANT them to succeed but sometimes just showing up for class doesn't cut it. Our parents know that. Our parents know that hard work and perseverance beats raw talent in the long run. Thank you for staying with us. But how did we attract you? Whatever it is, I want to keep doing that.
I'm not the best martial artist either. There are people around here who could kick my butt and in short order! There are people around here who have been doing this far longer than me who you could be going to. I am humbled that you chose me and continue to stick with me.
I guess that I am in absolute awe that we have come so far. With things being as busy as they are recently, I haven't had time until now to reflect on what we have really accomplished. It feels good top have made a difference in so many lives. Grades are better, behavior (though a slower fix) is better or getting better, and a gratitude for all that parents do is getting better as well, though not where I want it to be yet. Having close to 140 students at the moment pales in comparison to these achievements. Sincerely, thank you!
